Twilight of the Varidian Empire
Rising from the brightly lit streets of “The City of the Gods” are hundreds of towers with statues and statuettes carved from their foundations. Depicting ascension to the heavens, plummets from honor and grace, battles with the mighty creatures of Myrn, and the squabbles and intrigues between deities, these towers house the priests and rectors of the gods of Varo and all who patronize them. Located on an archipelago protected by sea walls on three sides, and open to the shallow Varidian Bay on the eastern side, Tolseii is all but impenetrable. Obviously the major deities house worship in the taller, larger towers, which are in the Solium Section(smaller geographically) of the Mitre Quarter, which also bears the lesser, more mundane gods’ temples in the Privatus Section. The shelters for many of the initiated devotees are located in the sprawling Mantle Quarter, and also includes the few markets and dining halls. In the Torch Quarter lie the spaces for which great conventions and celebrations of piety and faith are held. Weekly(and during the Turn of Chorus, daily) festivities are held in honor of the hundreds of deities in Varo mythology. It is here that great colleges of bards perfect their performance and write great odes, plays, and build wondrous art. Although usually a peaceful place, Tolseii also harbors the congress, its constables and their barracks, the dungeons and a small criminal population(sometimes in the guise of the saintly). Where these things lie is called the Sceptre Quarter. Here also is talk of underground worship of more devious gods, those banished from the gods’ court.
